Kennedy is a trained operatic tenor, having studied with
Carl Penlington-Williams of The Royal Northern College of Music.
Johnny studied music and drama at Scawsby College Yorkshire and Sheffield
University. Johnny gained a BA Honours degree with Distinction in Shakespearean
He has performed his Simply Shakespeare recital, a collection of songs
from the plays, to both opera and Shakespeare fans at many prestigious
UK venues including world-famous Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-on-Avon
where the Bard is buried, the renowned Liverpool Playhouse and the city’s
historic Athenaeum Club.
Johnny is equally at home in the glittering larger arena, having sung
at the London Palladium.
His versatility as a tenor means he is also in demand for stage musicals
and in November 2008 he starred in Our Benny, the musical version of Silas
Hocking’s Victorian tale which played to sell-out audiences at the
Liverpool Empire prior to a national tour. During the run at the Empire,
Johnny recorded his 175th appearance at the famous theatre.

His theatre credits are extensive and include numerous Shakespeare plays,
most recently in a cast of many nationally known stars in The Winter’s
Tale in Birkenhead Park and The Comedy of Errors with Hillbark Players.
His television appearances have spanned three decades and he was the star
of Denis Mitchell’s award-winning docu-drama The Entertainers on
Granada Television. In August 2009 he appeared with Lenny Henry on BBC
