His theatre credits are extensive and include numerous Shakespeare plays, most recently in a cast of many nationally known stars in The Winter’s Tale in Birkenhead Park and The Comedy of Errors with Hillbark Players.

His television appearances have spanned three decades and he was the star of Denis Mitchell’s award-winning docu-drama The Entertainers on Granada Television. In August 2009 he appeared with Lenny Henry on BBC 4.

Johnny is also one of the best-known radio personalities in the North West, three times winner of the Whitbread Radio Personality of the Year.
